There are droves of intriguing prospects in the Chiefs’ UDFA signing pool. Kansas City’s UDFA class is particularly heavy with Shrine Bowl products. Isaiah Moore, Jerome Carvin, Quinton Barrow, and Truman Jones were all at the event, as was the recipient of Kansas City’s most expensive UDFA contract: Tulsa RB Deneric Prince.
Prince was awarded a contract that contained $216,000 in guarantees and a $15,000 signing bonus from the Chiefs. He has the athletic tools that the Chiefs covet, standing at 6’0″, 216 pounds, with 4.41 speed. And at the Shrine Bowl, he showcased smooth athleticism on his cuts and ability as a receiving threat as well.

With a strong offseason, Prince could fight for a spot in Kansas City’s RB rotation behind Isiah Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon. Especially with Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s fifth-year option being declined, Prince has an opportunity to earn a place.
Past those names, two more prospects to watch on defense are LB Cam Jones and DB Martez Manuel. Jones was a productive defender at Indiana, who was given a guaranteed $150,000 contract. And Manuel has the size, physicality, and versatility to potentially distinguish himself.

The Chiefs have over two dozen unsigned UDFA prospects scheduled to compete at the team’s rookie minicamp. It’s likely that at least one or two players from this group will earn a contract if they perform well enough.

Some names to watch include Jeremy Cooper, Jamal Turner, BJ Foster, Ekow Boye-Doe, and Aidan Borguet. Turner, in particular, had buzz at one point in the 2023 NFL Draft cycle as an adept red-zone threat, and Boye-Doe is a dynamic cover man who ran a 4.39 40-yard dash at his pro day.
When Is the Chiefs’ Rookie Minicamp?
According to the 2023 Important NFL Dates on NFL.com, “Clubs may elect to hold their one three-day post-Draft rookie minicamp from Friday through Sunday or Saturday through Monday on one of the two weekends following the Draft.”
At the moment, no range for Chiefs camp has been confirmed, but it will take place either between May 5 and May 8 or May 12 and May 14.
In total, 53 rookies will take part in the minicamp action — among them, draft picks Felix Anudike-Uzomah, Rashee Rice, Wanya Morris, Chamarri Conner, BJ Thompson, Keondre Coburn, and Nic Jones.
