Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson proved even further that he deserves a lucrative contract extension as he torched the Miami Dolphins in the first half.
Quarterbacks have gotten paid this offseason, from Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, to Russell Wilson of the Denver Broncos. One signal caller who is due for a new deal is Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. Prior to the 2022 season-opener, Jackson revealed that he and the team could not reach an agreement on a contract extension by the self-imposed deadline, and that his focus would be on the campaign.
Jackson had a strong showing in Week 1 against the New York Jet. But in Week 2, Jackson torched the Miami Dolphins defense in the first half. Jackson completed 11-of-13 pass attempts for 210 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Ravens to a 28-7 lead at halftime.
After watching the first half, Twitter let it be known — pay Jackson.
Twitter declares that Lamar Jackson deserves to get paid
Ahead of Baltimore’s Week 1 game, it was reported Jackson had turned down a contract offer. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Jackson is believed to have turned down a $250 million contract offer and that the team “balked” at the quarterback’s desire for a fully guaranteed deal like that of Deshaun Watson.
On Baltimore’s second drive of the game, Jackson connected with wide receiver Rashod Bateman on a short pass, which he took 75-yards for a touchdown. Then on the following drive, Jackson hit tight end Mark Andrews for a one-yard touchdown. Finally, just before halftime, Demarcus Robinson caught a 12-yard touchdown from Jackson to give the 28-7 lead.
Oh, and then Jackson ran for a 79-yard touchdown late in the third quarter to extend Baltimore’s lead to 35-7.
If Jackson keeps playing at this pace, his price tag is going to keep increasing, and deservedly so.
