In Aaron Rodgers introductory New York Jets press conference, the former Packers quarterback told all about his departure from Green Bay and more.
Aaron Rodgers took the podium in East Rutherford, New Jersey wearing a different shade of green, and a new number. Out of respect for Broadway Joe Namath, Rodgers will not wear No. 12, though Joe previously mentioned he didn’t mind.
Rodgers handled the New York media quite well, addressing questions about his Packers departure relatively well. When asked in regards to Brian Gutekunst’s quote suggesting Rodgers hadn’t taken his calls all offseason, the new Jets QB had a creative response.
The future Hall of Famer seemed to embrace the challenge of hard-hitting questions, even speaking to media members directly.
“I’m excited about it, definitely heard a lot about the media,” Rodgers said. “You guys have a job to do. You’re very good at it. I’m excited about the opportunity to work with you all, to get to know you guys. I’ve been in Green Bay for 18 years, that’s a long time in a small town and it’s been great.”

Rodgers said on multiple occasions that he thought the Jets were Super Bowl contenders. He also complimented Nathaniel Hackett, who he thinks of “as a brother.” When New York defeated Green Bay just last season, Rodgers admitted he was impressed with the young talent on the roster.
Now, that young talented will get a chance to play with Rodgers, rather than against him.
Will Aaron Rodgers play in 2024?
Aaron Rodgers wouldn’t commit to playing in 2024, as he’s taking things one season at a time. It’s not a surprise given that’s been his timeline for the last several years.
“Right now I’m just going to focus on this season,” Rodgers said. “I’m excited to be here.”
The second-round pick New York gave up for Rodgers can become a first next season should he play 65 percent of his snaps this year. The trade package involved has little to do with Rodgers plans in 2024.
Aaron Rodgers will groom Zach Wilson
Rodgers discussed his confidence in Zach Wilson, stating one of his goals while in New York is to help him find his groove.
“He’s going to make my life hell in practice, and I’m going to make his life heaven off the field,” Rodgers said.
From a Jets perspective, Rodgers said all the right things, and quelled concerns about his commitment in 2023.
