Chiefs could acquire huge target for Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs are hosting the NFL Draft, and according to one former player, the team could be giving Patrick Mahomes a huge target.

Kansas City is hosting the 2023 NFL Draft, and the Chiefs will be selecting last in the first-round, by way of winning Super Bowl 57 this past February. But, given that the Chiefs are at home for the drafts, fans are wondering if they will try to make a big splash to really make a statement, whether that’s a trade up to nab a big-name prospect, or making a move for a star player. Could the latter be in the cards.

During Wednesday’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” former NFL cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones said that his sources are saying that in regards to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins “something might be happening” with either the Chiefs or Bills. Jones said that it might happen “tonight or tomorrow.”

Could DeAndre Hopkins be on the move to the Chiefs?

After the 2022 season, Hopkins was on the trading block, with the Arizona Cardinals allowing him to speak with other teams. The Cardinals reportedly had an asking price of a second-round pick plus more for Hopkins, but were unable to find a taker. But, with the NFL Draft a matter of hours away, it seems as though the NFL world is closer to finding out where Hopkins will be playing in 2023.

After Hopkins’ first season with the Cardinal sin 2020, where he recorded 115 receptions for 1,407 yards and six touchdowns on 160 targets, he had trouble seeing the field. That was a combination of a variety of injuries, and a six game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. All in all, Hopkins played in just 19 games the past two years.

This offseason, the Chiefs lost wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster in free agency to the New England Patriots, so there is an opening for them. They could choose to draft a wideout for Mahomes, as they sit with the No. 31 overall pick. But, giving Mahomes a big target downfield in Hopkins could be huge.

Now, we wait and see if the Chiefs do end up getting Hopkins, or if he ends up elsewhere.
