Cowboys QB leaves Bucs game with hand injury [Updated]

Dak Prescott was having a horrific night already against the Bucs but things got worse for the Cowboys quarterback because of a hand injury.

Sorry Cowboys fans. Just when you thought things were bad enough, the football god proved that when it rains it does indeed pour.

A demoralizing Sunday Night Football performance against the Bucs had Dallas trailing 19-3 late in the fourth quarter. Dak Prescott and the offense were terrible throughout, but at least the quarterback was healthy.

And then he wasn’t.

Dak Prescott injury: Cowboys QB left game with hand injury

Prescott had to leave the game after his hand collided with a defender’s. He was examined by trainers on the sideline and eventually left for the locker room.

Here’s how it happened.

And here’s him leaving with the medical staff for the locker room.

As bad as Prescott was in Week 1, there was always hope that he could bounce back with a better performance next week. A new injury, especially one involving his throwing hand, could have dire consequences for the Cowboys.

The team listed him as “questionable” to return.

Update: After the game, owner Jerry Jones said that Prescott will need to undergo surgery on the injured hand and will be out for several weeks.

Dak Prescott backup: Cooper Rush is Cowboys’ only option

Prescott’s backup is Cooper Rush, the former undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan.

The backup QB was only just activated to the roster ahead of Sunday’s game.

Last year, he had 422 yards, three touchdowns and 1 interception in five appearances and one start for the Cowboys. He started against Minnesota and helped engineer a 20-16 win.

If the x-rays don’t come back with good news, fans may have to experience another Rush start sooner than expected

The Cowboys are set to play the Bengals next week, so it could be “out of the frying pan, into the fire” for Rush and Dallas.
