The New York Giants and Green Bay Packers will play the second NFL London Game of the season. What is absolutely shocking is that this will be the first time in the history of the London games that the two teams playing both have winning records. Let that sink in for a second. The NFL has been playing in London for 15 years now — since 2007! That’s a lot of pressure on these two teams to make this one count.
Unfortunately for London fans, both these teams are struggling offensively. With a total set at only 41 points, oddsmakers are not confident that this one will be very explosive. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, the Packers have only eclipsed 20 points twice this season. Aaron Rodgers continues to struggle with his young wide receiving corps, but things seem to be on the rise with late-round pick Romeo Doubs starting to emerge. If Christian Watson can do the same, the Packers’ offense might start to look like it did the last few seasons.
For the Giants, offense is also an issue due to injuries to key players like their QBs and WRs. Both Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor were momentarily knocked out last week, forcing the team to run a Wildcat offense with Saquon Barkley. According to PFN’s NFL Insider Aaron Wilson, Jones will likely play this week while dealing with his ankle injury.
“It’s trending in the right direction,” a league source told Wilson. “I think he’s going to give it a go and his ankle is doing much better.”
Even with a banged-up Jones in the game, we can’t expect much from the Giants’ offense. Right now, everything is running through Barkley (pun intended). He has 463 rushing yards with two TDs on the season and sits as RB1 in fantasy football. Unfortunately for New York, by nearly all metrics, the Packers have one of the best defenses against the run in the league.
The Packers currently sit as eight-point favorites in this London game. Will they be able to cover more than a touchdown across the pond? Or, will Green Bay’s first EVER game in the U.K. be too much for Rodgers to handle?
