Washington Commanders get uplifting injury update on Brian Robinson Jr.

The Washington Commanders provide an uplifting injury update on the status of rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr., who will be active in Week 5.

A highly-anticipated date has finally arrived for every Washington Commanders fan.

The Commanders have officially activated the rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr., which now puts him in line to make his NFL debut versus the Tennessee Titans in Week 5.

This is a fantastic development for Robinson Jr.’s health and his burgeoning career, as well as everyone who has looked forward to seeing the 23-year-old take the field. Robinson Jr. has been placed on the non-football injury list for the past six weeks after being shot twice in the leg during an attempted robbery on Aug 28.

According to ESPN’s John Keim, the news is affirmation of what the Commanders were hoping for all week. “There had been optimism all week about Robinson’s chances of playing, especially after his right knee responded well after practicing each day,” Keim reported.

Robinson Jr. joins a backfield committee featuring Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic. With McKissic slotted as a third-down back and Gibson remaining their primary back, Robinson Jr. offers opportunity as a “steady, consistent back”, per Keim.

“He’s got a really good feel in terms of being able to run the football,” Washington running backs coach Randy Jordan said, per ESPN. “There’s some certain things you can’t teach… and feeling where he needs to cut.”

Robinson Jr. has been working towards his return to the field extensively over the past six weeks, returning to the practice field on Sept. 15, which was almost three weeks after he was shot.

If Brian Robinson Jr. has the phenomenal year everyone — especially head coach Ron Rivera — has been hoping for, perhaps he could join Alex Smith as another Commanders player to become the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year.
