Updates On Alvin Kamara, D’Andre Swift, Leonard Fournette And More

With final NFL injury reports in for Week 2, we now have a better idea of the fantasy football impact of the latest RB injury updates. Heading into Saturday, which players can we expect to suit up, who has been ruled out, and who is a game-time decision? Let’s take a look at our Week 2 Friday fantasy football RB injury report.

RB injury report for Week 2

Alvin Kamara, NO | Ribs

Official game designation: Not set

After practicing in a limited fashion on Wednesday, Alvin Kamara was absent from practice on both Thursday and Friday. However, he enters the weekend as questionable and has a chance to suit up. The situation in the New Orleans Saints backfield is tough, with Mark Ingram and Dwayne Washington also limited. The Saints added Latavius Murray to their practice squad this week, so we could see him active for game day.

If Kamara plays, it’s hard to sit him but equally hard to start him. There is every chance he will be limited, but if the Saints are trailing in the second half, they may have to turn to him for a spark. I would lean towards sitting Kamara this week. We saw him look somewhat labored last week with the injury, and this is a really tough matchup against a very good defensive front.

D’Andre Swift, DET | Ankle

Official game designation: Questionable

After being absent from practice on both Wednesday and Thursday with an ankle injury, D’Andre Swift returned to the field in a limited fashion Friday. He now enters the weekend with a questionable tag. However, on Thursday, a source told PFN’s NFL Insider Aaron Wilson that “He’s going to be ready, he’s good.”

Therefore, fantasy managers look set to have a decision Sunday morning. Do they start the RB coming off a career-high 144 rushing yards, or is he too risky coming into the game with this ankle injury? If Swift were to be limited, Jamaal Williams would likely be the next guy up, with Craig Reynolds providing cover. It will be tough to trust what kind of workload Swift might have Sunday, making him a difficult player to start for fantasy.

Leonard Fournette, TB | Hamstring

Official game designation: Questionable

Little was made of Leonard Fournette limping from the field last Sunday, but the effects have certainly been felt. Fournette has been limited all week, often working with the trainer off to the side. He now carries a questionable tag into the weekend. Fournette dealt with a hamstring strain in 2018, and it cost him six games that season for the Jaguars.

If active, it’s really hard to sit Fournette this week. Cordarrelle Patterson ran for 120 yards against New Orleans last week, and Fournette certainly has the higher pedigree of those two backs. Even if the Buccaneers limit some of his snaps, Fournette should still have enough work to provide for fantasy managers.

If he’s inactive, Rachaad White becomes an intriguing play. It was White who stepped up and took the snaps when Fournette left the field last week. White would be a fringe Flex starter if Fournette is out.

Official game designation: Cleared

After leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers Week 1 game with a foot injury, there was limited concern Najee Harris would miss this week. While he was limited Wednesday, he returned to the field in full capacity Thursday. He now enters the weekend with no limitation and, barring some kind of setback, will suit up Sunday. Despite the poor performance last week, he’s a player you should feel comfortable starting this week.

J.K. Dobbins, BAL | Knee

Official game designation: Questionable

Despite being a full participant all week at practice, J.K. Dobbins remains questionable to enter the weekend. Dobbins was quoted as saying, “We’ll see,” when asked if he was playing Sunday. He added that he truly did not know about his status. Given he practiced in full all week, the likelihood is that we see Dobbins in some form against a team that could be a rival for an AFC playoff spot come January.

In terms of fantasy football value, that is tougher to judge. Even if he’s active, Baltimore is unlikely to just hand him a full workload. They have Mike Davis, Kenyan Drake, and Justice Hill on their roster, so there very possibly could be a rotation used on Sunday against Miami. Unless you’re really short of RB options, it will be tough to start Dobbins in fantasy this week.

Kenneth Walker III, SEA | Hernia

Official game designation: Cleared

Kenneth Walker III started Week 2 strong as a full participant in Seattle’s Wednesday practice. He was downgraded to limited on Thursday, causing some slight concern. Nevertheless, Walker carries no injury designation into the weekend and appears set to make his NFL debut.

This is intriguing from a fantasy perspective, both for Walker and Rashaad Penny. With Walker returning to the field from his hernia surgery, there is every chance he will have a limited workload. That means he’s a tough player to start this week. Unfortunately, it also impacts Penny, who sees his fantasy value decrease to a point where he’s also tough to start in a 12-team league if Walker is mixing into the backfield.

Dontrell Hilliard, TEN | Hamstring

Official game designation: Not set

We’ll have to wait for Saturday for an official injury designation for Dontrell Hilliard, but the signs are not good right now. Hilliard missed both Thursday and Friday practices with a hamstring injury. Unless he can return to practice Saturday, it would seem unlikely the two-touchdown star from Week 1 will be active against the Buffalo Bills on Monday.

Damien Williams, ATL | Rib

Official game designation: Out

Damien Williams left the Atlanta Falcons Week 1 game against New Orleans with a rib injury in the first quarter. Williams was unable to practice at all during Week 2 and has been ruled out ahead of Sunday’s game. After Williams left the game last week, Patterson had a career day, with 120 rushing yards and a touchdown. With Williams absent, Patterson should again be set for a reasonably high workload.

In addition, we should see both of the other backs on the Falcons’ roster active. Avery Williams saw some work last week after Damien Williams left the game. Rookie Tyler Allgeier should also make his NFL debut after being inactive last week.

The Falcons also have Caleb Huntley and B.J. Baylor on the practice squad, who they could elevate if they felt they needed more depth at the position. From a fantasy perspective, only Patterson carries any value into the week, with uncertainty over the role of the other backs.
