George Kittle, Zach Ertz, Jameis Winston, And More

The latest NFL injury updates for Week 2 of the 2022 season are in. In our QB and TE injury report, we take a look at what these updates mean for fantasy football managers as they make roster decisions for this week’s matchups.

TE injury report heading into Week 2

George Kittle, SF | Groin

Official game designation: Questionable

George Kittle returned to the practice field Friday after being absent for the previous five sessions. Kittle injured his groin in practice leading up to Week 1 and missed San Francisco’s game in Chicago. He looked good on his return to the practice field but remains questionable heading into Week 2. According to Kyle Shanahan, Kittle will be a game-time decision this week and is healthier than he was seven days ago.

From a fantasy perspective, Kittle is a dangerous option, but he could easily be limited in his usage if he is active. The 49ers could use Kittle exclusively as a blocker or as a decoy in the passing game. If you have an alternative tight end option you feel good about this week, then it might be best to wait another game on Kittle, even if he is active.

Zach Ertz, ARI | Calf

Official game designation: Cleared

After he was questionable last week, all signs point to Zach Ertz being set to go in Week 2. He was limited to open the week Wednesday but was a full participant by Friday. He now carries no injury designation into the weekend.

This is great news for both the Arizona Cardinals and fantasy managers. The Cardinals are without DeAndre Hopkins, Rondale Moore, and Andy Isabella this week. With their WR depth being severely tested, Ertz could be in line for a big role alongside Marquise Brown and Greg Dortch.

QB injury report for Week 2

Jameis Winston, TB | Back

Official game designation: Questionable

Jameis Winston was limited all week with a back injury and enters the weekend questionable. That said, there does not seem to be major concern out of New Orleans regarding Winston missing the game, so we should expect to see him active come Sunday. He has a tough matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, especially given the potential for re-injury, so this might be a week in which to sit Winston if you can.

Mac Jones, NE | Back/Illness

Official game designation: Cleared

It has been a topsy-turvy week for Mac Jones. He was listed on the New England Patriots injury report as limited with a back injury Wednesday. He was then absent from practice due to an illness Thursday. However, following Friday’s practice, Jones is off the injury report and set to play in Week 1.

Jones goes up against a tenacious Steelers defense that forced four interceptions and multiple fumbles by Joe Burrow, so this should be a tough matchup for the Patriots QB. While Pittsburgh’s impact could be blunted by the absence of T.J. Watt, the rest of the team’s defense is built to pick up the slack. Jones is outside of the realm of starting quarterbacks this week, even in Superflex 12-team leagues.

Zach Wilson, NYJ | Knee

Official game designation: Out

Despite being a limited participant all week at practice, Zach Wilson was once again ruled out. Joe Flacco will start for the New York Jets and remains a fringe starting option in 14-team Superflex leagues.
