To say former New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan was hyped a day after the Aaron Rodgers trade is a massive understatement.
The New York Jets have a new quarterback, and it’s four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. After announcing his intent to play for the AFC East team on March 15, there was a 40-day wait until the two teams agreed to terms on a trade. Jets fans can now enjoy the NFL Draft knowing that they have their new quarterback.
Since the trade with the Jets went through during the New York City afternoon drive, fans waited for the morning after to see what kind of analysis they will hear. Well on ESPN’s “Get Up,” former Jets head coach Rex Ryan made an appearance, wearing a team varsity jacket and his father Buddy’s Super Bowl 3 ring. Ryan wore the ring because “the Jets are going” to the Super Bowl and declared that the team has put the NFL “on notice.”

That is quite the claim by Ryan, considering the fact that the team still plays in the ultra-tough AFC. This is the very conference in which the Kansas City Chiefs have made it to the Super Bowl in three of the five years that Patrick Mahomes has been quarterback.
But, the Jets faithful have had to sit through and watch numerous quarterbacks that were supposed to be the “saviors.” Whether that was Geno Smith, Sam Darnold or most recently Zach Wilson, they just didn’t pan out for the Jets.
Wilson notably lost his standing as starting quarterback this past season after failing to be accountable for his lackluster play against the New England Patriots in Week 11. The rest of the team was playoff-ready, but quarterback was holding them back. So, they prioritized getting a proven winner, and landed on Rodgers.
On Monday the Jets agreed to trade their No. 13, 42 and 207 overall picks in 2023, and a conditional 2024 second-round pick that turns into a first if Rodgers plays for 65-percent of plays in exchange for Rodgers and the No. 15 and 170 overall picks in 2023.
Rodgers did have a bit of a drop-off in production this past season, which can be attributed to a younger, inexperienced wide receiver group and a broken right thumb. In 17 regular-season games, Rodgers threw for 3,695 yards, 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 64.6 percent of his passes. But, he did win NFL MVPs in the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
