How Many Draft Picks Did the Colts Have Entering the 2023 NFL Draft?

As of now, the Colts have nine selections in the 2023 NFL Draft. They have one selection in each of the first four rounds, then three selections in Round 5. They sent their original sixth-round pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a trade for linebacker Grant Stuard but got back a second seventh-round pick in the process.

Chris Ballard and Jim Irsay will have their work cut out for them this offseason to win back the hearts of the Colts faithful. It’ll be a tall task after failed year-to-year experiments with Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, and now Matt Ryan. But the Colts are situated at No. 4 overall — prime quarterback territory. That will help the team reset the clock under new head coach Shane Steichen.

Indianapolis used their first-round pick to select Florida QB Anthony Richardson, one of the 2023 NFL Draft’s top quarterbacks.

On Day 2, Indianapolis trade back, sending pick No. 35 to Las Vegas for picks No. 38 and No. 141.

The Indianapolis’ Round 1 decision — presuming that it will be a quarterback — will come to define their 2023 NFL Draft class. However, the selections don’t stop there. The Colts have their original Round 2 pick, which puts them in a great position just outside the first round. They also have a third-rounder, granted to them after trading Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders.

On Day 3, the Colts have six more selections, headlined by three total in Round 5. Indianapolis possesses their original fifth-round pick and received two more via trade. One was acquired in a deal that sent running back Nyheim Hines to Buffalo, while another was acquired this offseason — a Round 5 compensatory pick from Dallas in exchange for veteran CB Stephon Gilmore.
