How Many Draft Picks Did the Bengals Have Entering the 2023 NFL Draft?

The Bengals have seven total selections in the 2023 NFL Draft. After reaching the AFC Championship for a second straight season, Cincinnati is positioned with the 28th overall pick in the first round.

Surprisingly, the Bengals still have all of their original picks (and only possess those picks). They haven’t dealt away or added any new picks via trade. They also received no compensatory picks from the NFL, leaving their total at seven.

Most 2023 NFL mock drafts have the Bengals targeting the defensive side of the ball with their first-round pick. Cornerback is a common match, as veteran Eli Apple is a free agent. Edge rusher is also a potential area to target, as Cincinnati could use a stronger EDGE presence opposite Trey Hendrickson.

That said, offensive tackle — specifically right tackle — has emerged as a major need for the Bengals, and one where the value could line up nicely at 28th overall. The Bengals signed former Chiefs left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. in free agency, inputting him at their own LT spot. That move led incumbent starter Jonah Williams to request a trade.

The Bengals did sign Cody Ford in light of these changes, who does have right tackle experience. But Ford isn’t a stable commodity as a starter, and incumbent RT La’el Collins remains a cut candidate.

Thus, if a prospect like Darnell Wright or Dawand Jones is available at 28th overall, either one would be a prudent add for Cincinnati. Both are dominating spectacles with natural RT experience, as well as plus-pass-protection ability.

Elsewhere, the Bengals have a similarly pressing need at tight end. It’s not clear if they’ll target the position with a first-round pick, especially considering the class’ depth at the position. But Cincinnati is very thin there, and if a prospect like Michael Mayer or Dalton Kincaid is available, that could also be a compelling option.
