Kirk Cousins proves once and for all he owns Aaron Rodgers

Kirk Cousins continues to have Aaron Rodgers’ number in their head-to-head matchups.

Kirk Cousins improves to 5-4-1 versus Aaron Rodgers head-to-head as NFC starting quarterbacks.

The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Green Bay Packers 23-7 on Sunday evening in Week 1. While the Packers have a bad habit of hitting the snooze button in Week 1 of NFL seasons, Cousins continues to play his best brand of football when facing the star quarterback of his rival team. While his kryptonite still remains the primetime window, Rodgers is no Superman versus Cousins.

If only Cousins was the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers…

If that were the case, Rodgers would never have a chance against him under any circumstances.

Kirk Cousins still owns Aaron Rodgers in their head-to-head matchups

On the day, Cousins completed 23-of-32 passes for 277 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. The bulk of his targets went to his No. 1 wide receiver in Justin Jefferson, who had a monster day with nine catches for 184 yards and two trips to pay dirt. In a way, this result only further illustrated why the Vikings might be the team to beat in the NFC North race this season.

Cousins has a new head coach in Kevin O’Connell, who will put him in better positions to succeed as a former quarterback himself. He has weapons galore to work with. As for Rodgers, he may have a good defense this year to lean on, as well as a strong running back corps. Unfortunately, the Packers may have the worst wide receiver room in the NFL. This is going to be a big problem.

Even though this was a game the Vikings were probably going to win anyway, Green Bay has to win the next matchup in Lambeau later on. Although the Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions do not have the feel of playoff teams this year, Green Bay does not want to leave it up to chance as a Wild Card squad this fall. The clock is ticking on Rodgers’ prime, and he has a Super Bowl to go win.

The narrative of Cousins owning Rodgers is out there, and it’s one that is not going away anytime soon.
