Arizona Cardinals cornerback Antonio Hamilton posted photos on Twitter revealing serious burns he sustained in a “freak accident.”

Antonio Hamilton had won the No. 2 cornerback job for the Cardinals in training camp but he won’t get to fill it for at least four weeks.

In a case of apparently miserable luck, Hamilton suffered burns to his legs and feet in what Ian Rapoport reported as a “cooking accident.”

Hamilton described it as a “freak accident” and shared photos of the damage to his skin that’ll make even the hardest person cringe.

“Had the greatest camp of my career & last Monday I had a accident that could’ve ended up deadly for me & my family but instead I got the short end of it by having my feet severely burned (2nd degree),” Hamilton tweeted. “It was literally a freak accident and God spared me to only have these injuries.”

John Gambodoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Phoenix tweeted Hamilton spilled hot oil on himself while cooking at home.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury praised Hamilton earlier this week when it was learned he’d suffered injuries of some kind.

“It’s disappointing for him,” Kingsbury said per Bo Brack. “He had earned a starting role.”

Kingsbury credited Hamilton for having the best camp performance on defense.

The Cardinals put Hamilton on the Non-Football Injury list, which will keep him out for at least four weeks. With receiver Antoine Wesley and safety Charles Washington going on injured reserve, they re-signed tight end Stephen Anderson, long snapper Aaron Brewer and cornerback Christian Matthew.

Hamilton signed with Arizona last season after bouncing around the league with the Raiders, Giants, Chiefs and Buccaneers. He had 38 tackles in 17 games of action including two starts last season.

This is a clear setback for Hamilton and the Cardinals defense but the cornerback could come back to contribute once his burns are healed up.
