Vikings could ship off another valuable member of the offense

The Minnesota Vikings are making some changes to their roster, and they have received a trade offer for one of their top players on offense.

The Minnesota Vikings are on the verge of making some big moves, as they look to get under the salary cap threshold. They have already made one big move in releasing middle linebacker Eric Kendricks, and reports indicate that they are going to move on from veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen. Could another big move be on the way?

According to Darren Wolfson of SKOR North, the Vikings have received a trade offer for star running back Dalvin Cook. Not only that, but Cook is unwilling to take a pay cut with Minnesota, per Wolfson.

Vikings reportedly received trade offer for Dalvin Cook

“I did hear that there is an offer in on Dalvin Cook,” Wolfson said, h/t Sports Illustrated. “So if they wanted to trade Dalvin Cook, there is an interested team. I don’t know the pick, I don’t know if it’s a seventh-round pick, a fifth-round pick. And I don’t even know if the Vikings are willing to say ‘OK, yeah, let’s do that,’ I just know that there is trade interest.”

Cook is entering the third year of his five-year, $63 million, and is set to account for $14.1 million against the cap. If the team were to release or trade Cook before June 1, they would save $7.8 million in cap space, but eat $6.2 million in dead cap, per Spotrac. However, if they were to release or trade him after June 1, they would save $11 million in cap space.

Playing in all 17 regular-season games, Cook ran for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns on 264 carries, while catching 39 passes for 295 yards and two touchdowns on 56 targets.

It will be interesting to see what the Vikings do regarding Cook. Would they keep him to ensure their offense is intact? Or would they consider trading him to a running back-needy team to gain some extra draft capital?
