The Indianapolis Colts have plenty of options available at quarterback, one of whom is not Matt Ryan, who they let go to start free agency.

Matt Ryan will not be the Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback in the 2023-24 regular season. It’s unclear what his plans are after being let go by Indy, but Scott Steichen wants to go in a different direction at the QB position.

There were plenty of free-agent options available. Lamar Jackson remains, and while the Colts may have discussed him as an option internally, they have yet to make a serious offer. Jackson would require significant financial means, and would limit what else the Colts could do to address serious needs in free agency. It’s why the Ravens are the only interested suitor at this point.

One solution to this would be to sign a stopgap quarterback with connections to Steichen. Thankfully for Indianapolis, there’s one on the market in Gardner Minshew. Even should they sign Minshew, Steichen and the Colts would still have an option to draft a QB in the first round, and bring him along slowly.

Minshew has started 24 NFL games in his career, proving that he can be relied upon as a backup QB. This would be his first chance to start out of training camp since his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
