In the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs sit on top of the football world with seven consecutive AFC West division titles and a pair of Super Bowls, including the most recent in 2022. Over the past decade, the Chiefs have been one of the most dominant teams in the league.
The success comes from great management, coaching, product on the field, and a fan base like no other. As many know, Arrowhead is the loudest stadium in the NFL and home to many screaming and diehard Chiefs fans.
Well, sometimes even the diehard fans find unimaginable ways of making headlines.
The FBI announced on Monday that Chiefs super fan Xavier Babudar (aka ChiefsAholic) was arrested and taken into custody last Friday, July 7.
Who Is ChiefsAholic?
Babudar, a long-time Chiefs fan, has never missed a game at home or on the road. He is easily recognizable as a superfan of the Chiefs, as he always wears a wolf costume to the games and has been known for his antics.
He has a great presence on social media and has entertained and interacted with thousands of fans.
Why Was Xavier Babudar Arrested?
According to a press release from the United States Attorneys’ Office. Xaviar Michael Babudar, 28, was charged with one count of bank theft and one count of transporting stolen property across state lines in a criminal complaint filed under seal in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Mo., on May 24, 2023.
The federal criminal complaint was unsealed and made public today following Babudar’s arrest in Lincoln, Calif., on Friday, July 7. Babudar will have his initial court appearance this afternoon in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California in Sacramento, Calif.
Of course, this is not the first time the diehard fan was arrested. KCTV-5 reported that Babudar was arrested for a robbery at the Tulsa Teachers Federal Credit Union in December 2022. He was later released on bond in February and was required to wear an ankle monitor.
One month after being released, Babudar’s ankle monitor was found as he fled and was later found in Sacramento.
Ryan Gados of Fox News reported that Babudar had been involved in several robberies. A complaint was filed that Babudar had stolen $70,000 from a Missouri bank in March of 2022. He would use that money to purchase casino chips. Investigators also tied Babudar through his cellphone and locations to other bank robberies committed in Nebraska, Iowa, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.
Fans around the NFL were stunned to hear about the news. How could a fan who entertained so many put himself in this situation? A once popular figure in the Chiefs kingdom is now facing punishment that is yet to be determined.
