Should You Add Taysom Hill From the Waiver Wire for Week 6?
Available in 69% of Yahoo leagues and 88% of ESPN leagues, Hill continues to be one of the most uniquely utilized players we’ve seen in fantasy football history. He’s currently ranked as TE3 behind Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews after producing 112 rushing yards and three touchdowns in Week 5. He has as many passing completions (one) as he does receptions on the season.
Hill’s production will never be like his peers since he’s more of a wildcat quarterback and rusher than a tight end. He ranks second in red zone tight end scoring, converting four rushing attempts within the 20 for 30 yards and four scores. He would rank as the sixth-best running back in the red zone with those numbers.

The risk of Hill is obvious since he’s reliant on three factors. The first is the Saints’ ability to get into the red zone. The second is the team’s continued success blocking for him on wildcat plays and/or continuing to scheme plays specifically for him. Finally, the last factor is New Orleans’ potential decision to give Alvin Kamara more touches at any moment.
As the TE20 and No. 155 overall player for Week 6 in our PFN expert PPR fantasy rankings, it’s fair to say we’re skeptical about relying on Hill at any point. But your roster might just need the jolt of scoring potential Hill brings. It’s fair to say only Kelce and Andrews offer the same upside as Hill can produce any week.
The Bengals have done well to limit rushers to the third-fewest fantasy points in the NFL. Of course, Hill’s usage is far from traditional, but that’s the best way to characterize his value. He has only 21 carries for 228 yards but five scores on the year.
It would be far more ideal for fantasy managers if Hill caught passes or was a bigger threat to throw the ball. Alas, he’s not, and he’s the most talented gimmick the league has seen in some time. The Saints are an excellent blocking team and truly maximize Hill’s rushing prowess with their playcalling and designs.
You can’t fully rely on Hill for consistent production, but he can win you any given week. I’d rather have Kelce, Andrews, and T.J. Hockenson than Hill. But it’s fair to start considering whether Hill’s upside is more valuable than the decent but not special consistency of Dallas Goedert or any other tight end. The state of your roster also factors in.
Teams needing more explosive talent should pick up Hill and start him until further notice. His potential outbursts of 15 points or more can be matchup-defining compared to the risk he scores far less.
