Packers, Jets trade talks take a major step back

Remember when we thought Packers-Jets trade talks around Aaron Rodgers were nearly complete? Oh, those were the days.

I hate to break it to you, but this might take awhile.

Aaron Rodgers remains a member of the Green Bay Packers. We have no idea if he wants to play next year, despite what would be a monumental payout for merely reporting to training camp and sitting on the bench. The New York Jets are interested, and would gladly pay him most of that money. It’s all in motion.

Butt that motion has stopped, for now. As great as Rodgers is, he’s also one of the more indecisive players in the sport. We could be at this for weeks. Every step forward is answered by a proverbial step back.

Per, Tom Pelissero, the Jets and Packers have not agreed to a framework of this trade, despite reports suggesting that they have. Rodgers is also nowhere close to making a decision. He’s doing this on his own terms, and that means we’re stuck in neutral.

Aaron Rodgers rumors: Packers, Jets trade talks in neutral

Mark Murphy discussed Aaron Rodgers Green Bay career in the past tense on Friday night, making it sound as though the future Hall of Famer making a return to the Packers was a backup plan.

“I mean unless, if things don’t work out the way we would want them, yeah,” Murphy said on the WIAA broadcast when asked if there’s a scenario in which Rodgers could return. “He’s obviously a great player and four-time MVP, but I think it’s trying to find what he wants and what we want, and hopefully we can find a win-win situation.”

Rodgers’ darkness retreat feels like a long time ago at this juncture. That was supposed to help him make up his mind. So much for that.

It’s like a doctors appointment with a days-long waiting period. It never ends.
