Myles Garrett has fiery response to Baker Mayfield’s comments on Browns

Defensive lineman Myles Garrett responded to former teammate Baker Mayfield’s reported comments about the Cleveland Browns.

Baker Mayfield made some interesting comments ahead of the start of the 2022 season. The current starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers is set to play the Cleveland Browns, his former team. Mayfield reportedly said that he was “going to f–k them up,” in regards to facing the team that traded him.

Mayfield’s former teammate and Browns star defensive lineman Myles Garrett responded to the reported comments, saying that the quarterback has had uses that “demeanor and attitude” and that it works for him “for better or worse.”

Garrett then said that “we’ll take it and we’ll use it.”

“It does the same for us as well. We’ll take it and we’ll use it, and I’m hoping for a great matchup, said Garrett, h/t Cleveland.com. “I don’t think any less of him because he’s going out there and doing the same thing he did when he was with us. He’s the same guy personally, and maybe we’ll see a different Baker when we get on the field. Who knows?”

The comments were made by Mayfield when speaking with NFL Network’s Cynthia Frelund, who was the sideline reporter for the Panthers vs. Buffalo Bills’ preseason game. Frelund talked about the exchange on the “Around the NFL” podcast.

“I walked up to him and said, ‘I’m so excited to see you, like, go kick some butt,’ I didn’t say that word,” Frelund said, h/t Cleveland.com. “… Go kick some butt, especially Week 1, I like cannot wait. And he uses some expletives and I was like, ‘I just hope you’re like ready.’ He was like, ‘I’m gonna bleep them up.”

Frelund confirmed that the “F” word was used in the quote. Frelund has since took to Twitter to downplay the comments.

The Browns made the move to acquire Deshaun Watson, who was still faced over 20 civil lawsuits for allegations of sexual assault and misconduct, from the Houston Texans in exchange for multiple draft picks. Watson will not be playing in the season-opener, as he was suspended for the first 11 games of the 2022 season. Starting for Cleveland is Jacoby Brissett, who started for the Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins throughout his career.

Prior to the acquisition of Watson, Mayfield requested a trade off the team, which was initially declined. In July, the Browns traded Mayfield to the Panthers in exchange for a conditional 2024 draft pick.

After a competition in training camp with fellow 2018 first-round draft pick Sam Darnold, Mayfield was named the Week 1 starter.

It will certainly be an interesting matchup between the Panthers and the Browns. Will Mayfield get the win over the team that replaced him? Or will the Browns be the ones leaving Carolina with the win?
