Mike Evans appears to namedrop Tom Brady after Marshon Lattimore fight

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans got in a fight with Saints defensive back Marshon Lattimore, and he appeared to name drop Tom Brady afterward.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans got in a fight with New Orleans Saints star Marshon Lattimore during Sunday’s Saints-Bucs game. Several players from both teams ran in, some to continue the fight and some to break it up.

One of the Bucs players on the periphery was the legendary Tom Brady, to which Evans appeared to respond with, “That’s Tom Brady, what do you want me to do?”

Evans and Lattimore were both ejected from the game for starting the brawl, which is an unsurprising turn of events considering the rivalry between the two teams.

The Saints and Bucs are division rivals and were the only teams in the division that had Week 1 wins. The Buccaneers had their first ever regular-season win over New Orleans with Brady as quarterback on Sunday.

New Orleans, however, wanted a victory just as bad because it was a revenge game for quarterback Jameis Winston. Winston, who was the first pick of the entire 2015 draft and played with the Bucs from the beginning of his career up until he was replaced by Brady.

There was bound to be some tension between the two teams, and it was almost predictable that Evans and Lattimore would get into it because they’ve fought in the past.

Buccaneers and Saints WRs Mike Evans and Marshon Lattimore have fought before

One of their first fights goes back to 2017 when Evans shoved Lattimore for exchanging words with then-Bucs quarterback Winston, which resulted in a one-game suspension. Another incident came up in 2020 when Lattimore shoved Evans in the back. Evans fought back and teammates intervened. According to ESPN, “Lattimore was fined $10,500 for unnecessary roughness for the incident.”

Lattimore hasn’t spoken out on the most recent incident, but Evans has and from what he’s stated, it sounds like he was sticking up for his teammates.

According to ESPN, Evans stated, “All I seen was we were trying to get a flag called or whatever, and it wasn’t called, and all I see is Lattimore, he like punched Lenny in the face or something like that and like, pushed Tom. That’s all I saw. I just pushed him.”

Though being physically rough probably isn’t the best way to handle incidents on either end, one thing is undeniable. Evans has his teammates backs more than anything else.
