Joey Porter Jr. promises to bring part of dad’s game Steelers fans will love

The only thing better than Joey Porter Jr. going to the Pittsburgh Steelers is for him to talk an absurd amount of on-field trash like his father did before him in The Steel City for years.

Joey Porter Jr. promises he will talk as much trash as his father did for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Porter was the first pick of the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. While he had to wait an extra day to hear his name called, his landing spot was absolute perfection. Pittsburgh is a place where his father Joey Porter Sr. carved out an incredible playing career. With Mike Tomlin still at the helm of the operation, we know Pittsburgh will remain a place that prides itself on defensive excellence.

Of course, few things are better on the football field than when a defender makes a play and lets the offensive skill-position player know about it.

Porter became the highest-drafted Penn State product by the Steelers since the late Franco Harris.

Pittsburgh Steelers legacy Joey Porter Jr. promises to talk all of the trash now

I would love nothing more than for Porter’s jaw to be constantly moving when teams like the Baltimore Ravens, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns come to town. It is cool to tell everybody you line up against what’s up, but it is even better to do that to a hated division rival twice a season. Biannual division rivalries are one of the very best things the NFL has going for it.

Whether the trash talk is mean-spirited or varying shades of Tom Petty, don’t back down. You stand them up at the gates of hell and damn them torpedoes, baby! The best part about talking trash is you don’t even have to swear in doing so. Philip Rivers has never uttered a choice word in his life, but he is arguably the greatest trash talker the NFL has and will ever see. One of one, dude.

While Porter certainly has big shoes to fill and will have to somehow live up to the name of his namesake father, he is off to a fantastic start. He played for the national powerhouse in-state over at State College. Given that his dad had such a distinguished career as a professional, Porter already has a leg up on so many men who were drafted this weekend. He has a legacy to build.

May Porter be as good with the gab as he is with the pads now that he is playing for the Steelers.
