Doug Brumfield, Aidan Robbins Should Be Rostered

The five-game slate that is Friday night in college football opens up to a wonderful FanDuel DFS slate. Sorting through the rosters and projected playmakers, the New Mexico vs. UNLV DFS picks offer up much intrigue. Here are the top DFS picks in one of the five matchups from Friday night.

New Mexico vs. UNLV: Top FanDuel DFS picks to target

Quarterbacks

  • Doug Brumfield, UNLV: $10,200 – Start
  • Miles Kendrick, New Mexico: $5,800 – Don’t start

Despite owning a sound, top-half pass defense, the New Mexico Lobos haven’t quite faced the likes of Doug Brumfield and UNLV yet. Brumfield has impressed this season, dotting the field with accurate passes and adding an extra element with his legs. He’s scored multiple touchdowns in all but one game so far this season, including four combined rushing touchdowns on the ground in his last two. Brumfield is a lock for starter during your Friday slate due to the favorable matchup he has against New Mexico’s edge presence and lack of coverage prowess to stop his receiving threats on the outside.

Running Backs

  • Aidan Robbins, UNLV: $9,800 – Must start
  • Nathaniel Jones, New Mexico: $5,800 – Don’t start
  • Courtney Reese, UNLV: $5,600 – Don’t start
  • Sherod White, New Mexico: $5,300 – Don’t start

Two weeks removed from his National Team of the Week landing spot, Aidan Robbins is officially turning the right heads. The beast of a running back stands 6’3″, 230 pounds but has a gentle elegance to his game. He’s a high-ceiling running back who gets to go up against a smaller defensive front at every turn. New Mexico has a top 40 defense in yards allowed per game on the ground, but Robbins is a different kind of beast to attempt to slow down.

Combine that with the fact that he has shown something in the receiving game this year and you’ve got a high ceiling with a relatively low floor despite his high price tag. Regardless, if you’re starting one running back from this game, you’re weaving Robbins in somehow.

Wide Receivers

  • Kyle Williams, UNLV: $8,400 – Don’t start
  • Ricky White, UNLV: $7,700 – Fringe start
  • Jeff Weimer, UNLV: $5,800 – Don’t start
  • Geordan Porter, New Mexico: $5,500 – Don’t start
  • Shelton Zeon III, UNLV: $5,300 – Don’t start
  • Luke Wysong, New Mexico: $5,200 – Don’t start
  • Senika McKie, UNLV: $4,800 – Don’t start

Of the receiving options in this game, you’re limited to the top three from UNLV as the passing attack at New Mexico will always draw ire. Kyle Williams has hauled in a touchdown in each of the last four games but may have hit his proverbial ceiling this year as a fringe-level WR3 for DFS purposes. On the other hand, despite being held without a reception last week, Ricky White was still targeted four times and has been targeted the most among UNLV receivers from Brumfield.

The left-handed quarterback is hard to scheme against or practice against, and his rapport with White downfield should pay dividends against a New Mexico defense that has been prone to back-shoulder completions deep downfield. Start White if you have the room or need a mid-tier receiver price tag.

Tight Ends

  • Shaun Grayson, UNLV: $4,600 – Don’t start
  • Brye Lighon, UNLV: $4,500 – Don’t start

Despite the success of some of their tight ends this year, the DFS slate is going to be hard-pressed to find any winning lineups that include tight ends this weekend. Like seemingly every other game, stay away from the tight ends in this one.
