Troy 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Reports
Carlton Martial, LB
Strengths: Former walk-on who was awarded All-America and All-Conference honors since his freshman season. Instinctive, aggressive, and immediately locates the ball handler. Fires upfield and sells out to defend the run. Drives his shoulders into ball handlers and wraps up tackling. Chases the action hard. Effectively quarterbacks the defense.
Weaknesses: Possesses average speed and is ineffective in pursuit. Struggles in coverage. Gets too amped up and overpursues plays on occasion.
Overall: Martial is a tremendous story and was a great leader for the Troy defense over the past four seasons, but he lacks size and speed and really has no position at the next level.

Jake Andrews, OL
Strengths: Three-year starter who is experienced at both guard and center. Intelligent and does an outstanding job quarterbacking the offensive line. Starts with good knee bend, gets leverage on opponents, and stays square. Fires off the snap into blocks, keeps his feet moving, and is explosive at the point. Effective with his hands and anchors in pass protection. Displays outstanding vision, sees the blitz, and plays through the whistle.
Weaknesses: Lacks quick, fluid footwork in space. Doesn’t play like a good athlete. Doesn’t finish blocks and gets pushed around the field.
Overall: Andrews is a tough, intelligent blocker who gets the most from his ability, yet he lacks athleticism and upside. His football intelligence and approach to the game will be attractive and could earn him a roster spot as an inexpensive backup.
