Jones is a prominent name in pop culture, separate from her connection to Mitchell. She’s a singer-songwriter and actress who has climbed through the entertainment industry over the years. These days, she’s known best for her music, but she’s also had plenty of success as an actor throughout her rise to fame.
Her first big break came when she participated in Season 3 of Radio Disney’s “Next Big Thing.” Jones finished as runner-up in the competition, but those efforts led to her signing with Hollywood Records, where she was featured in multiple live-action Disney sitcoms.
This included recurring roles in “So Random!” and “Good Luck Charlie.” However, her breakthrough came when she starred in the Disney musical film “Let it Shine,” which became the most-watched Disney Channel Original movie and the most-watched movie of the year for kids and tweens in 2012.
Her star was rising, but she faced a setback when Hollywood Records dropped her in 2014. From there, she released her music independently or under Future Mix. During this period, she released songs such as “Peppermint,” “Just My Luck,” “Depressed,” and “Hollyweird.”
Meanwhile, she also maintained her acting career during that time. She landed roles in “Grandma’s House,” “Flock of Four,” “Five Points,” and “Vampires vs. the Bronx.” It wasn’t until 2021 that she got her next major break when she landed the starring role on the Peacock drama series “Bel-Air,” where she played Hillary Banks.
What Has Jones Accomplished in Music and Entertainment?
In 2022, she was signed by High Standardz and Def Jam Recordings as an artist. Since then, she has released three albums: “What I Didn’t Tell You,” “Coco by the Fireplace,” and “Why Not More?” These came in addition to the four she had already released: “Coco Jones” (self-released in 2010), “Made Of” (released by Hollywood Records in 2013), Let Me Check It (released by Future Mix in 2017), and H.D.W.Y. (self-released in 2019).
Through her work as an actor and a singer, she has received multiple awards and nominations. These include recognition from the BET Awards, Give Her FlowHERS Awards, Soul Train Music Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and the Grammy Awards.
Her engagement to Mitchell isn’t her only connection to professional athletes. Her brother, Mike Jones Jr., is a linebacker for the Atlanta Falcons.
