Atlanta Falcons WR Darnell Mooney had just one reception for 15 yards as Atlanta took care of business, taking down the Washington Commanders, 34-27. The Jayden Daniels-less Commanders’ team has fallen to 2-2 as Atlanta picked up their second win of the season.
Upon doing so, they learned of an injury to Mooney that could not have come at a better time, as they have a Bye in Week 5.
Ian Rapoport Comments on the Extent of Atlanta Falcons WR Darnell Mooney’s Injury
The Falcons are more than pleased to be heading into their Bye with a 2-2 record. They let a Week 1 win slip away from them against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but rebounded with a 22-6 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2. There’s no excuse for their 30-0 shutout loss to the Carolina Panthers, a team that sits at 1-3. Thankfully for Mooney and company, they were able to secure a key victory over the Commanders.
#Falcons WR Darnell Mooney suffered a hamstring injury yesterday in Atlanta’s win, but with the bye coming up, it’s likely that he doesn’t have to miss any games, sources say.

A hamstring injury was the main cause of concern for Mooney. He has just seven receptions for 79 yards this season as he still awaits his first touchdown of 2025. Thankfully, Atlanta seems to have avoided a serious injury. Rapoport wrote, “Mooney suffered a hamstring injury yesterday in Atlanta’s win, but with the bye coming up, it’s likely that he doesn’t have to miss any games, sources say.”
Most teams would prefer not to have their Bye in Week 5, but this time it happened to work in the Falcons’ favor. Instead of being without Mooney for a game, they’ll have an extra week to rest him and make sure the 27-year-old is prepared to return to the field. Through four weeks, he’s fourth on the team in receiving, as the Falcons receive a C grade in PFSN’s Offensive Impact.
QB Michael Penix Jr. may have been benched last week, but Week 4 was his revenge game. The second-year QB finished 20/26 for 313 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He had not one, but two players finish with 100+ receiving yards. WR Drake London and RB Bijan Robinson both reached triple digits while TE Kyle Pitts had 70 yards himself.
Robinson currently leads the team with 270 receiving yards, just one more than London’s 269. Each saw their season totals skyrocket after Penix played the game of his life in Week 4. Right behind them is Pitts with 205, as they are the only three players with more than 100 receiving yards on the season.
Upon their return to play in Week 6, one of the main focal points of the Falcons’ offense is going to be getting Mooney more involved. He’s currently in the same category as WRs Ray-Ray McCloud and Casey Washington, while he should be in the same conversation as Pitts and London.
