Not only did this dominant win punch their ticket to Las Vegas for the NBA Cup semifinals. But it also helped them reach a record that has now put the entire league on notice.

After the win against the Suns, it was revealed that the Thunder had clinched the longest winning streak in franchise history. They are now riding a 16-game stretch without a single loss. This incredible run has pushed their season record to 24–1. This performance has tied them with the Golden State Warriors’ legendary start to the 2015–16 campaign, which was the season in which the Warriors went 73–9.
Back then, Golden State started the season by having 24 straight wins before falling in their 25th game, and now, OKC finds itself right on the doorstep of that same historic pace.
However, this isn’t the only milestone the Thunder have reached this season. Even earlier in the year, they showed the league just how strong and connected they are. The Thunder became only the third team in NBA history to start 7–0 in back-to-back seasons, and it is a rare achievement that highlights their growth.
If we look closely at Wednesday night’s game, it becomes clear why OKC has been so successful. The offense was powered by their two brightest stars, and they were Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren. Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 28 points, while Holmgren added 24 points of his own, and both players set the tone from the very beginning.
Right from the start, the Thunder had the upper hand as they stormed out to a 15-point lead after the first quarter, and their energy continued into the second quarter. By halftime, they were up by 26 points.
In the third quarter, OKC kept their foot on the gas and scored 36 more points, and by the time the fourth quarter arrived, the Thunder reached their biggest lead of the game. It was of 53 points. Phoenix could not handle the pressure and eventually fell in one of their worst losses of the season.
