Betting on the coin toss at the Super Bowl is a rite of passage for all sports bettors. I don’t think you’ve become a true bettor until you do it.
It’s dumb, it’s stupid, it’s random, but it’s a whole lot of fun and a great way to kick-off a great night of gambling.
It’s as simple as it gets. Will the official coin toss at the Super Bowl land on heads or tails. It needs no further explanation.
Let’s take a look at the odds.

As you might expect, the odds for the coin toss are exactly that, a coin toss. Each side has the same chance of hitting. Sportsbooks have even done us the favor of reducing the juice (or vig) to 5% instead of the standard 10%. How kind of them.
But, what about the history of the coin toss? Is there an edge one way or the other?
Super Bowl coin toss history
There have been 56 Super Bowls, meaning there has been 56 coin tosses. Here are the results:
So there ya have it, tails has a slight edge, going 29-27 through the first 56 Super Bowls.
But, if you’re someone who would rather bet on momentum and recent results, than heads might be the bet to make. That side of the coin has had a BIG run in recent years, going 4-1 dating back to the last time the Eagles were in the Super Bowl.
Heads and tails went 1-1 in the two recent Super Bowl appearances by the Chiefs.
Will heads win again this year and pull within one of the all-time lead? Or will Tails get back in the win column and extend its lead to three.
The stakes are (not really) high! So go ahead, and place your bet.
