Stephen Curry is, by all means, one of the greatest players to ever lace them up. As such, it only made sense that he had his own signature sneaker line. That’s why it was a bit of a surprise to see him part ways with Under Armour after a 13-year partnership.
He’s now the hottest name in the sneaker free agent market, and he’s making the most of his newfound freedom.
Stephen Curry Honors NBA Legends With Sneakers
Even when he’s not playing, Curry has everybody looking at his feet. And after watching him wear different pairs since parting ways with Under Armour, it’s pretty clear that he’s paying tribute to some other NBA legends that came before him.
So far, the four-time NBA champion has rocked the Kobe 6 ‘Mambacita,’ Reebok ‘Shaqnosis,’ Nike ‘Air Penny 2,’ and, as shown by Complex Sneakers, Way of Wade 1.

But why did Steph Curry and Under Armour end their partnership? As one of the faces of basketball and one of the most influential players of all time, Curry’s sneaker line was expected to fly off the shelves.
Unfortunately, as Sneaker History founder Nick Engvall explained in his newsletter, Under Armour failed to make its way into the culture:
“Basketball shoes aren’t just performance products; they’re status symbols, fashion statements, cultural artifacts,” Engvall explained. “Nike understands this. Adidas understands this. Under Armour thought they were making athletic equipment when they should have been making art.”
Draymond Green Believes Curry Will Come Out on Top of This
Of course, this is now a massive opportunity for every major sports apparel brand on Earth to make a run at the greatest shooter of all time. That’s why fellow Warriors star Draymond Green believes Curry will be the biggest winner of this situation:
“I think to be in the position he’s in right now, this may be the biggest opportunity of his life,” Green said on his podcast. “We all know how great Steph Curry is. We all know the love that Steph Curry has, and the Curry Brand already has a presence. So where he takes the Curry Brand next, it’s not like they’re starting from ground zero. Steph Curry is Steph Curry.”
Moving to Under Armour was instrumental in Curry’s health. He dealt with chronic ankle injuries before getting his own signature line, and that should be a story to keep a close eye on.
Even still, it’s hard to envision any scenario in which he doesn’t get a very lucrative deal with one of the leaders of the sneakers market pretty soon.
