NBA Analyst Bill Simmons Pokes Fun at Lakers-Clippers Rivalry in Wake of Chris Paul Fallout

On Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Clippers sent shockwaves throughout the NBA, with the team shockingly deciding to part ways with future Hall of Famer and arguably the best player in the franchise’s history, Chris Paul.

After spending one season playing alongside Victor Wembanyama on the San Antonio Spurs, Paul chose to return to the Clippers for his last season in the league, which seemed like a fitting end to an incredible playing career. Apparently, that farewell tour with the Clippers wasn’t meant to be, as things got ugly between the veteran point guard and head coach Tyronn Lue, who was no longer on speaking terms with Paul.

Bill Simmons Jokes About Clippers-Lakers Rivalry

As someone who always seems to chime in on NBA drama that goes down in the NBA, Bill Simmons of The Ringer couldn’t resist taking to social media and poking fun at the crosstown rivalry between the Clippers and the much more successful Los Angeles Lakers.

“Feels like the Lakers finally have the upper hand in the Lakers/Clippers rivalry,” Simmons said jokingly.

Although fans of these two Los Angeles franchises despise one another, the Clippers have consistently struggled to compete with the Lakers in terms of on-court success. Paul’s presence on the Clippers gave the team its most significant boost in existence, but the team was never able to win the elusive NBA title.

The Lakers, on the other hand, have won 17 NBA titles, which is second in the league behind the Boston Celtics, who are a true arch-rival to the storied franchise. There have been many historic battles in the NBA Finals between these two iconic franchises, featuring several legends from both organizations, including Magic Johnson, Luka Dončić, Larry Bird, and Jayson Tatum.

As for the immediate future, the Clippers appear to be headed into a downward spiral surrounded by endless controversy, while the Lakers are once again among the elite teams in the NBA, led by a legitimate superstar in Dončić.

The two Los Angeles franchises couldn’t be headed in more different directions, with one team making all the right moves and the other headed for disaster. It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that the Clippers are potentially on the verge of a massive overhaul, from players in the locker room to those running the show in the front office, as the future looks bleak for the struggling franchise.
