It is not the way the North Carolina Tar Heels guard Seth Trimble wanted to start his senior year. However, he began his road to recovery on Monday, after undergoing surgery on his non-shooting arm. The 6-foot-3 guard got injured when something fell on his arm while he was lifting weights on Sunday.
College Basketball Host Gives an Update on Seth Trimble’s Injury Timeline
Isaac Schade, the host of the Locked On Tar Heels podcast, gave the latest update on Trimble’s injury. Initially, he expressed concerns about the surgery being delayed, and thus impacting his healing.
“Seth Trimble had his surgery on Monday afternoon. That’s really good. You know, the initial report on Sunday was that Seth’s going to have surgery sometime this week. And it’s like, oh my goodness, the longer that’s delayed, the longer the healing takes to begin,” Schade said. (Timestamp: 2:18)
Then came the bad news when Schade talked about the recovery time. “The news is six to eight weeks of recovery time,” he continued. “It could take longer. You know, I just we got to be prepared for all those realities. But the expected window of recovery is 6 to 8 weeks, and then we’ll see how quickly Seth can get back up to speed after that and get his left arm healthy again.”
Schade also made some calculations and talked about the number of games Trimble will miss.
“So 6 weeks from the day of the surgery is December 22nd. That’s the short end. That night, Carolina hosts East Carolina in the final non-con game of the season. So, like on the short end of that six weeks, you’re missing the entire bulk of non-conference play other than ECU.”
Trimble might miss some crucial games against Mississippi State, Kentucky, Georgetown, and Ohio State. Furthermore, he might also miss two ACC games against Florida and SMU. Head coach Hubert Davis needs to figure out a replacement, which will not be an easy task considering the kind of player Trimble is.
Who will Replace Trimble?
With Trimble out for an extended period, Davis might look at Jonathan Powell, Jaydon Young, or Derek Dixon. However, none of them come close to adding points to the total as freshman Luka Bogavac does.
The 6-foot-6 guard is averaging 7.5 points, three rebounds, and three assists in his debut season. With a completely different skill set from Trimble, Bogavac would look to space the floor and even take shots from beyond the arc.
The Tar Heels will now face Radford on Tuesday, and will also need their star freshman Caleb Wilson to step up.
