Jeff Passan Drops Blunt Verdict on Rockies Potentially Surpassing White Sox as MLB’s Worst

The Chicago White Sox and the Colorado Rockies were the two worst teams during the 2024 MLB season. The White Sox had a 41-121 record during that season and the Rockies had a 61-101 mark in 2024.

In 2025, it appears as if Chicago and Colorado are heading down the same paths as the two worst teams in MLB. The Rockies have the worst record in all of baseball at 4-25, and the White Sox are right behind them with a 7-22 record.

Is there a chance that Colorado has a worse record in 2025 than Chicago did during the 2024 MLB season? One MLB analyst talks about why the Rockies are not a good baseball team.

ESPN Analyst Talks About the Colorado Rockies Being the Worst Team in MLB

ESPN MLB analyst Jeff Passan went onto the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday to talk about many different MLB topics. One of the topics was about the Rockies’ poor start to the 2025 MLB season. Passan said about the possibility of the Rockies being worse in 2025 than the White Sox in 2024, “The Colorado Rockies spend money, they just don’t spend it well.. The Chicago White Sox record of the worst team in baseball history might only last one season.”

What does not help the Rockies’ cause in 2025 is that they play in the toughest division in all of baseball. The National League West has four teams over .500. The Los Angeles Dodgers are 20-10, the San Francisco Giants are 19-11, the San Diego Padres are 18-11, and the Arizona Diamondbacks are 15-14. All four of those teams have a chance to make to make the playoffs in the National League in 2025.

However, the Rockies have a chance to get the number one pick in the 2026 MLB Draft if they continue to be the worst team in the MLB. One contract that Colorado has regretted over the last few seasons was outfielder Kris Bryant. He signed a seven-year $182 million deal after the 2021 MLB season. He played with the Chicago Cubs and the San Francisco Giants before signing with the Rockies.

Bryant has been dealing with injury issues during his first four seasons of his contract with Colorado. In just 11 games in 2025, he has a .154 batting average with zero home runs and one RBI, along with zero stolen bases. His on-base percentage is .195.

Bud Black has been the manager for Colorado since the 2017 MLB season. If the Rockies managed to break the White Sox win-loss record in 2025, there is a very high chance that they will move on from him as manager after the year. Bill Schmidt has been the general manager for Colorado since October 2, 2021, and there is a chance that he is also let go to at the end of the 2025 MLB season.
