The Kansas City Chiefs have planted a rare gift underneath Allegiant Stadium, which presents an early good omen for a team searching for their first back-to-back Super Bowl titles in franchise history.
Turns out, a construction worker was the one who planted the unique seed years before the first Super Bowl in Las Vegas.
Fan Revealed To Have Buried Special Chiefs Flag Under Allegiant Stadium
In Nov. 2022, Chiefs fan and construction worker Gerard DeCosta posted a photo holding up a “Chiefs Kingdom” flag outside of the construction site for the brand-new home of the Raiders.

That photo was taken in 2017 when the construction of Allegiant Stadium moved forward. And DeCosta, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal in Dec. 2017, had purposely buried the flag underneath the stadium.
That ’17 photo then made its rounds to Facebook. Another Chiefs fan named Chris Scherzer shared DeCosta holding up the Chiefs flag while standing at what appeared to be the future spot for the 50-yard line.

“Flag buried in dirt, encased in concrete, with a stadium built on top of it,” the message said. “Chiefs 1, Raiders 0. Las Vegas.”
Now, with the Chiefs trekking to Sin City with another opportunity to claim the Vince Lombardi Trophy, many are wondering if the flag remains buried there and if the omen has worked.
Is Gerard DeCosta Still Active on Social Media?
Here’s how many believe DeCosta’s gimmick has worked: Kansas City has yet to lose at Allegiant since its debut.
But how proactive is DeCosta now on social media?
Turns out that he’s never wavered from his fandom online. Following the Chiefs’ 17-10 AFC Championship Game win over the Baltimore Ravens, DeCosta congratulated Chiefs safety Justin Reid before referring to the “Black Hole” as “Arrowhead West.”

But he’s also tagged other Chiefs stars in his photos: Chris Jones, Travis Kelce, and Patrick Mahomes. The Pro Bowl defender Jones himself even suggested for DeCosta to “bury” the flag at the 50-yard line.
He’s even clapped back at Las Vegas-themed accounts that are more supportive of the Raiders than the Chiefs.
Did the Raiders beat the Chiefs in their new stadium yet? Asking for a friend!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

The Chiefs will head to Sin City, this time facing a San Francisco 49ers team looking to shed the memories of their last big game meeting in the 2019 season — which sparked the Chiefs’ run of AFC titles and Super Bowl appearances. The Niners won the last time they visited Allegiant Stadium, which was for the 2022 season.
But still, the Chiefs have an established history of winning in Sin City and are yet to face defeat there. Now, many are wondering if DeCosta and his Chiefs flag are the good omen behind their impressive winning streak in Vegas. There’s also no word yet on whether DeCosta will be waving a new Chiefs flag and watching his beloved team play come Feb. 11.
