DeAndre Hopkins isn’t the most active on social media. But his clap back game was strong in his first tweet since July 22 as the new Tennessee Titans wide receiver directed a vicious response to someone commenting on his practice habits: A Houston sports radio personality.
Who Did DeAndre Hopkins Call Out Online?
Sean Pendergast of SportsRadio 610 AM in Houston — the AFC South rival of Hopkins’ former league employer, the Houston Texans — first reacted to a video clip of the veteran wide receiver in practice action with his newest team.
Pendergast, however, used the snarky comment: “Rare footage of DeAndre Hopkins practicing!”
Hopkins, however, broke out of his brief Twitter sabbatical and unleashed on the radio persona — even bringing Pendergast’s wife into the conversation.
“Just buy my jersey for your wife at this point, I’m sure she’s tired of hearing my name in your sleep,” Hopkins responded.

And that reaction sparked plenty of notable responses in Hopkins’ mentions — from NFL Network personality and Sirius XM radio host Rich Eisen, fellow NFL Network personality Steve Wyche, USA Today NFL analyst Doug Farrar, to even Hopkins’ former quarterback teammate with the Arizona Cardinals Kyler Murray.
Who Is Sean Pendergast? Is There a Past Rift Between He and Hopkins?
To answer the second question, it’s not known if the two really have a deep enmity toward one another.
As it was, Pendergast took the response in humor for the former “H-Town” star, even calling it “funny as hell.” Yet, some will believe that Hopkins clearly has had every criticism Pendergast has given him either written down or embedded in his brain. Especially as he transitions back to the AFC South.
Pendergast is a well-known name in the Houston region, as one-half of the Houtopia Football Podcast alongside longtime NFL reporter and recently retired Houston Chronicle insider/columnist John McClain. While he’s in the business of being critical, Pendergast told Barrett Sports Media back in January 2023 that he understands the difference between being critical and disrespectful while on the airwaves.
Hopkins Already Inspiring One Teammate?
Meanwhile, Hopkins is getting used to his new Titans teammates. One, though, told ESPN Titans reporter Turron Davenport that being around “D-Hop” has elevated his own game.
“One hundred percent,” Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks said. “I’d say it’s human nature to not let another man be better than you. Just to go against that every day and try to beat him, and he’s going to try to beat me, that’s just going to make each other better.”
Burks includes how being around Hopkins, including learning how he takes care of business on the practice field, has been motivational for the second-year pro and 2022 first-rounder out of Arkansas.
