Denny Hamlin has endured a brutal stretch to close out 2025. Already dealing with the heartbreak of narrowly missing his first Cup Series title, the 23XI Racing co-owner had hoped December would bring some relief.
Instead, a fire at his parents’ North Carolina home led to the death of his father, Dennis Hamlin, who was terminally ill. After remaining out of the spotlight, Hamlin recently shared a heartfelt message on social media, thanking fans for their support and providing an update on his mother.

November 2025 started on a terrible note for Hamlin, who missed out on his first-ever Cup Series championship after being the favorite to take home the title for the majority of the season. His character arc last season was something to behold as he quickly went from being the villain of the sport to a fan favorite.
Hoping to win it all in front of his terminally ill father, little did Hamlin know that not being able to call himself a Cup Series champion would be the least of his concerns as 2025 ended.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Hamlin tragically lost his father in a house fire, with the 75-year-old unable to bear the brunt of the injuries. Meanwhile, his mother also sustained significant injuries, but she was taken to the hospital for the required treatment.
Breaking his silence on social media recently, Hamlin issued a heartfelt message for his fans, thanking them for their support, while also revealing that his mother was recovering well.
He wrote, “Thank you to everyone who has reached out with condolences on my father’s passing. My mother continues to improve, and our family truly appreciates the outpouring of support and the respect for our privacy during this time.”
Notably, the first responders arrived at the scene of the fire by 6:30 p.m., with reports indicating that the fire broke out around 6:19 p.m. By that time, the fire had caused a complete structural collapse, and investigations continue to determine the cause of the fire.
Tributes continue to pour in from the NASCAR world, with the likes of Kyle Busch, Connor Zilisch, Mark Martin, Kenny Wallace, and Kyle Larson speaking out in support of Hamlin amid such difficult times.
That said, December 2025 has not been an easy month for NASCAR, with two enormous tragedies rocking the sport. Aside from the Hamlin family tragedy, Greg Biffle and his family also became a part of an unfortunate tragedy, where seven people (including Biffle) lost their lives in a plane crash.
