Bears Sign Former Texans Defender

The Chicago Bears are making some noise this season, in a good way.

That’s why they are seeking reinforcements to maintain their strong start.

The Bears reportedly are signing Super Bowl champion safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

“Gardner-Johnson now reunites with Bears DC Dennis Allen, who coached him with the New Orleans Saints,” Adam Schefter wrote on X.

The veteran should provide some much-needed help to the Bears’ shaky secondary.

New head coach Ben Johnson has Chicago in playoff contention, despite multiple injuries on defense.

While things reportedly didn’t end well between Gardner-Johnson and Allen with New Orleans, he knows he won’t have many more opportunities in the NFL if things don’t work out in Chicago.

The Philadelphia Eagles traded him to the Houston Texans, and he was cut after rubbing people the wrong way.

Then, he joined the Baltimore Ravens, but was released shortly after.

Gardner-Johnson had six interceptions for the champion Eagles last season, and he has 18 for his career with 51 passes defended in his seven years in the league.

His ability to also play cornerback will come in handy for the Bears, who lost Pro Bowler Jaylon Johnson indefinitely due to core muscle surgery.

Kyler Gordon will also miss at least three more games after being placed on injured reserve, and struggling Tyrique Stevenson also missed the Week 8 loss to the Baltimore Ravens with an injury.
