The New England Patriots are arguably the worst team in the NFL this season, and over the past few years, they have discovered how hard it is to rebuild after creating a dynasty.
Their current roster is deficient in almost every area, and it likely will take them years to become a competitive team again.
There have already been rumors that new head coach Jerod Mayo could be on the hot seat, but ESPN insider Adam Schefter said it is unlikely he would lose his job so soon.
“You’d have to see a lot to move on from a guy after one year. So, while I never rule out anything in this league, that still would surprise me some,” Schefter said, via WEEI Afternoon Show.

As Schefter said, Patriots owner Robert Kraft has spoken in a complimentary manner about Mayo, and that would make firing him in the coming months even more of a rash decision.
In pro sports, coaches are often the casualty of a team playing very poorly over an extended stretch, and it isn’t always their fault their team underperforms.
The one glimmer of hope right now for New England is rookie quarterback Drake Maye, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, who was given the starting job prior to Week 6 despite many saying the team simply didn’t have the infrastructure to keep him safe and sound.
In his two starts, Maye has put up 519 passing yards, five passing touchdowns and two interceptions.
Patience could be the key for this once-proud franchise as it looks to establish a new identity in its fifth season without legendary quarterback Tom Brady.
