The Kansas City Chiefs are set to take on the No. 2 seeded Buffalo Bills in challenging conditions in upstate New York. With the two powers set to meet with a date with the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game on the line, Sunday promises to provide fans with another thrilling chapter in what is one of the NFL‘s best rivalries.
With the season at stake and every moment and decision enhanced, both teams hope to have as many weapons on the field as possible. For the Chiefs, just like the Bills, there are question marks for some of their offensive weapons, including WR Kadarius Toney.
Let’s look at Toney and his injury situation ahead of the Divisional Round matchup.
Kadarius Toney’s Injury Update
While Toney, probably more so than anyone, is looking to face the Bills after his offside snafu in Week 14 that took a touchdown off the board and ultimately led to a Chiefs loss, he won’t get the chance to right the wrong this week.
Toney has been ruled out for the contest due to hip and ankle injuries. Initially, he was given a questionable designation heading into the game, but that has since been changed, and he will no longer be available for the playoff matchup.
Who Steps Up in Toney’s Absence?
This will be the fifth straight game that Toney will miss due to injury. As a result, Kansas City has had to rely on other wideouts to step up in his absence.
Toney not being available has provided more opportunities and targets for wide receivers Richie James and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. James has seen nine targets and has caught seven of them in the last four weeks, while MVS has been the beneficiary of seven targets, catching three during the same stretch.
The numbers have not been gaudy, but the Chiefs have been making it work in Toney’s absence, with these guys merely lending a helping hand to the usual suspects of Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice.
It’s been a struggle at times for Kansas City’s offense. Despite their ability to get to the Divisional Round once again under Patrick Mahomes, there have been times when the offense has looked stagnant and has provided them with issues en route to where they are now.

Now, with no tomorrow to speak of, the Chiefs will once again hope the cast of pass catchers out there on Sunday will be enough to advance to the next round.
