With the Dallas Cowboys kicking off their first week of training camp this week, let’s look at the depth chart and who has a chance to make the final roster.
Remember that things can and will change as we progress into camp, as they always do. Although there are some established staples on the roster, some spots within certain position groups are still wide open.
Dallas Cowboys 53-Man Roster Projection | Offense
The Cowboys used their offseason to shore up their offensive scheme by hiring offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and delegating the play-calling to head coach Mike McCarthy.
The “Texas Coast” style offense for Dallas will be something that should be easier and less overwhelming, allowing the dominos to cascade in a line to more production on the offensive side of the ball.
Quarterback
The Cowboys have their starting quarterback with Dak Prescott and have solidified their backup with Cooper Rush with a two-year contract. Still, it will be interesting to watch Will Grier’s improvement since last preseason.
Running Back
All eyes are on Tony Pollard as he returns after fracturing his fibula and getting surgery. Not only is Pollard returning to the field, but he’s returning to the field as the starter. The second RB spot, meanwhile, is up for grabs, making this one of the most competitive battles in training camp.
- Tony Pollard
- Malik Davis
- Deuce Vaughn
Wide Receiver
The Dallas Cowboys have their starting three trio in CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks, and Michael Gallup. But the offense needs a fourth guy that will be determined during camp. This is another position that is wide open right now.
- CeeDee Lamb
- Brandin Cooks
- Michael Gallup
- Jalen Tolbert
- KaVontae Turpin
- Simi Fehoko
Tight End
The Cowboys’ tight end room is one of the youngest on the team. It is expected for Jake Ferguson to step into the starting spot after an impressive rookie season. But with the young talent and new playbook under McCarthy, the “four horsemen” must be re-established.
- Jake Ferguson
- Peyton Hendershot
- Luke Schoonmaker
- Sean McKeon
Offensive Line
The Cowboys’ offensive line remains one of the most fascinating storylines at camp. The versatility continues to drive almost all of the conversations surrounding this group.
Although Zack Martin is holding out from camp, this should not impact his position at right guard, as he is a staple of the line.
- Tyron Smith
- Zack Martin
- Tyler Smith
- Terence Steele
- Tyler Biadasz
- Asim Richards
- Matt Waletzko
- Matt Farniok
- T.J. Bass
Dallas Cowboys 53-Man Roster Projection | Defense
Interier Defensive Line
Dallas quickly found the solution to patching up their run defense by locking down Johnathan Hankins and drafting Mazi Smith in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Because of this group, the trenches will be clogged up with big bodies, ensuring that all defensive cylinders are firing at equal levels.
- Neville Gallimore
- Johnathan Hankins
- Mazi Smith
- Osa Odighizuwa
- Viliami Fehoko Jr.
EDGE
With Micah Parsons expected to work on the edge after beefing up in the offseason, it’s a guarantee that pressure will be put on opposing quarterbacks, ensuring they have less time to release the ball out of the pocket.
Although DeMarcus Lawrence is getting up in age, the young talent in the room keeps him rejuvenated. Sam Williams, meanwhile, is eager to grow and should take a big leap this year.
- Micah Parsons
- Dante Fowler Jr.
- DeMarcus Lawrence
- Sam Williams
- Dorance Armstrong
Linebacker
Leighton Vander Esch continues to be the thermostat of this room, but this group has a good mix of older and younger talent that mesh well.
- Leighton Vander Esch
- Malik Jefferson
- Damone Clark
- DeMarvion Overshown
- Jabril Cox
Cornerback
Dallas’ cornerback room has become one of the most exciting rooms to watch out for. Between Trevon Diggs now being on lock with the contract extension and the addition of Stephon Gilmore helping to mold the younger players, this room has higher expectations than it has had in years.
- Trevon Diggs
- Stephon Gilmore
- DaRon Bland
- Eric Scott Jr.
- Nahshon Wright
- C.J. Goodwin
Safety
The “three-headed monster” seems to grow even more heads with this safety room.
Although it’s a given that Jayron Kearse, Donovan Wilson, and Malik Hooker will be yet another triple threat in the Cowboys’ locker room, the young talent in the room also ensures depth.
- Jayron Kearse
- Donovan Wilson
- Malik Hooker
- Israel Mukuamu
- Markquese Bell
Dallas Cowboys 53-Man Roster Projection | Special Teams
In recent seasons, special teams have become a popular topic of conversation among Cowboys fans. It has become an avenue for players to showcase their versatility, which we know is highly valued on this roster.
The only real competition here is at kicker, which is still up for grabs. But with Brandon Aubrey’s background and résumé, he has the upper hand in this competition.
