Tampa Bay Buccaneers legend Tom Brady spoke about the controversial roughing the passer call on his podcast, and he laughed off the situation.
Brady humorously responded with, “It was a long, un-welcomed hug from Grady [Jarrett]…As I said after the games, I don’t throw flags. What I do throw is tablets.”
Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett sacked Brady in the last three minutes of the game, but it was called as a penalty that ended up giving the Bucs the advantage.
Brady had a hilarious response to the situation, but Jarrett isn’t laughing it off quite as easily. After declining to speak with the media about the situation immediately following the game, he finally opened up about his thoughts on the situation, and he feels it cost them the opportunity to win the game.
Grady Jarrett feels the sack on Buccaneers QB Tom Brady cost the Falcons the opportunity to win the game
Jarrett seems a bit upset about the penalty, which is understandable. With a close 21-15 loss, it’s upsetting to lose a last-minute opportunity to win from something that could’ve been avoided. A sack could’ve been a good move, but it backfired.
Jarrett shared his thoughts on the situation on The Grady Jarrett Show, according to the Atlanta Falcons website.
“I’m not saying that it cost us the game, but it cost us an opportunity to go win the game. If it’s costing people games, it’s going to cost people’s livelihood’s, it’s costing people opportunity. You never know who will go down and make a crazy play. When people watch it to be entertained, they love to see some game winning drives and then when you do it the right way, that’s what makes it so frustrating because you did follow the rules. And you didn’t do anything bad, so let’s get the game what the game is owed, and that’s the best product we can put on the field. That’s the thing that really drives you just a little crazy. In full speed, it may look more malicious than it really is because the refs are human as well, so let’s just take a little bit off the plate and be able to review something like that just for the defensive sake so we can get something.”
He does, however, seem to be using it as motivation to do better. Regardless, the situation was a bit bizarre and something to look back and laugh on.
