Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins could be on the move to the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason….or these other two teams based on the latest NFL rumors.
All it takes is one team’s general manager or coach to say something vague about a player for the rumors to start spreading like wildfire. For DeAndre Hopkins, Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon recently said he “wasn’t sure” if Hopkins would be on the roster for the 2023 season.
Cue every wide receiver-needy team suddenly exploring a potential trade for the star wideout in the coming months.
Some teams have a better shot at landing Hopkins than others: the Kansas City Chiefs, for example, are coming off a glorious Super Bowl win and have what it takes to trade for the Cardinals wideout.
A Hopkins trade package could come an at unbelievably cheap price with some pundits predicting a second-round pick and a conditional pick as fair compensation. It just so happens that the Chiefs hold a second-round pick at No. 63 overall, but they may face some steep competition against teams that have slightly more desirable second-rounders.
DeAndre Hopkins could draw interest from Chiefs, Patriots, and Giants
The New England Patriots feel like a wild card option here, yet given Bill Belichick’s uber-friendly sideline chats with Hopkins last season, it’s not inconceivable to imagine the Pats coming out on top in the Hopkins sweepstakes.
New England’s wideout room currently ranks as one of the scrappiest in the league, and their only consistent playmaker, Jakobi Meyers, is set to be a free agent in 2023. The Pats may be willing to look past Hopkins’ injury history and fork over a second-rounder to finally get Mac Jones the help he needs.
As for the New York Giants, the franchise parted ways with Kenny Golladay and will be looking for reinforcements to boost their own underachieving receiving corps. Darius Slayton, Sterling Shepard, and Wan’Dale Robinson pose as mid-level outside targets, yet a move for DeAndre Hopkins would undeniably elevate New York’s passing game. Assuming Saquon Barkley leaves in free agency, the Giants will need all the wideout help they can get.
Of course, what the Chiefs have that the other teams don’t is two Super Bowl wins in the last three years. That’s a good enough reason to convince any high-profile receiver to join Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, though if Hopkins wants to be the star of the show, he could seriously contemplate a move to the Northeast….
