Stephen Curry did not hesitate to deliver a public message to his Golden State Warriors teammates heading into Game 7 against the Houston Rockets. After qualifying for the playoffs as the seventh seed in the West, the Warriors now face the daunting task of playing an elimination game on the road.
Given that the Warriors initially had a 3-1 lead on the Rockets, losing the last two games in a row is undoubtedly a matter for concern and has generated a lot of criticism from the media and fans.
If the Warriors lose Game 7 to the Rockets, it would be devastating for the franchise, especially since they added Jimmy Butler to their roster at the trade deadline to contend for an NBA championship. With the Game 7 pressure in the air, Curry had a clear message for his squad.
Stephen Curry Wants the Warriors To Play With Confidence in Game 7
Golden State is infamous for blowing 3-1 leads. Many might still remember when the team did just that in the 2016 NBA Finals against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Although a significant amount of time has passed since then, those ghosts may still haunt the organization.
Curry knows that the Warriors have been struggling greatly from the 3-point line over the past few games, making just 30 out of 93 attempts in two games. Even though the team is not consistently making shots, Curry urged his teammates to stay confident heading into Game 7.
“There’s a reason they’re playing this zone for a whole half pretty much,” he said. “And they’re trying to force a certain type of shot. I took probably four heavily contested deep threes just to try to kinda will us, but if they’re going to do that and they’re going to play zone and make certain guys shoot it then….It’s the same way we talk about it all season long, regular season, playoffs, like everybody’s in this league for a reason. If you have a shot, take it. I don’t need to say anything…”
“Everybody’s in this league for a reason. If you have a shot, take it. I don’t need to say anything… You’re out there, be aggressive. Look for your shot and we’ll live with it.”

Curry concluded with an air of emotion, “You’re out there. Be aggressive. Look for your shot and we’ll live with it. That’s the name of the game. The shots that we’re creating or the shots that are open, keep taking them.”
It is important for every player on the Warriors to remember that they are professionals in the NBA and to shoot open shots with confidence. Curry is regarded as the greatest shooter ever and knows the psychological impact that missing shots, or worse, not taking them, has on other parts of the game.
Hopefully, players in the Warriors locker room get Curry’s message and put up their best performance yet. That is the only way for the team to make it to the next round of the Western Conference playoffs.
