The Los Angeles Rams enter the 2025 season as legitimate NFC contenders, built around a young core that’s hungry for more success. The team maximizes its championship window with veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford while developing standouts like Puka Nacua and Kyren Williams.
However, beyond Nacua and Davante Adams, who arrived this offseason in one of the best moves of free agency, a seventh-round rookie could earn a meaningful role and emerge as a surprise contributor, much like Nacua did two years ago. That journey begins now in the preseason.
Can Konata Mumpfield Follow Nacua’s Path to Stardom?
When you examine the Rams’ skill position group, the names that jump out are Nacua, Adams, and Williams. Stafford leads this talented group after signing a contract extension this offseason to continue chasing a second Super Bowl before retiring in a career that could make a strong Hall of Fame case.
Beyond the already established core that helped the team go toe-to-toe with the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs and the addition of Adams, Konata Mumpfield could follow a similar path to Nacua’s 2023 breakout. The rookie could quickly earn a key role in Sean McVay’s scheme.
Mumpfield was listed in a PFSN article as a bold prediction to emerge this season, thanks to his elite route-running ability, a trait that perfectly fits the type of passing game Stafford demands from his receivers.

“The Los Angeles Rams have their top two wide receivers lined up in Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. They signed Tutu Atwell to a one-year, $10 million extension, but he hasn’t lived up to his second-round billing. Seventh-round rookie Konata Mumpfield might not take the job right away, but he’s a route-running savant who could shine in practice,” Jacob Infante wrote.
In his final college season, Mumpfield posted his best numbers, recording 813 receiving yards and five touchdowns over 12 games at Pittsburgh. The performance earned him a spot in the draft, though not until pick No. 242 by Los Angeles.
Nacua had a similar start, being selected at No. 177 overall. That didn’t stop him from putting up 1,486 receiving yards as a rookie, setting an NFL record for a first-year wide receiver.
History could repeat itself, especially since McVay relies on receivers with this profile to make his passing game click, particularly when using 11 personnel with three wideouts on the field. With Tutu Atwell currently holding the WR3 spot in that formation, the door is open for Mumpfield to earn a place in the rotation.
