Nick Wright Reveals The Leverage That Brandon Aiyuk Has

ARLINGTON, TEXAS - DECEMBER 20: Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk #11 of the San Francisco 49ers celebrates a touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys during the second quarter at AT&T Stadium on December 20, 2020 in Arlington, Texas.

The situation between the San Francisco 49ers and star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has taken many turns this offseason.

Aiyuk wants a new deal and San Francisco has not been willing to pay him the amount that he covets, at least so far.

So, the former first-round pick requested a trade out of the Bay earlier this Summer.

Teams such as the Patriots, Browns, and Steelers have been interested but no trade has been made.

Even though a trade has not been made and even though a contract has not been agreed upon, analyst Nick Wright believes Aiyuk still has a lot of power.

“The leverage Aiyuk has is, ‘I can make it miserable here,’” Wright recently said on The Colin Cowherd Podcast.

Wright referenced the Philadelphia Eagles flopping at the end of last season after starting 10-1 because of some possible turmoil inside the locker room between quarterback Jalen Hurts and head coach Nick Sirianni.

Using that example, he is saying that Aiyuk could possibly act poorly or be a bit of a sour apple on purpose to try and force the front office’s hand.

Why would the team want him around if all he is is a distraction by sitting out of practices and games?

San Francisco is on the cusp of a possible Super Bowl and cannot afford any distractions or burdens.

That is the tactic that Aiyuk could use if he has no interest in being there without a new contract.

It will be interesting to see if the former first-round pick goes that far or not.
