NBA Insider Suggests Big Move for Kevin Durant, Links Suns’ Star to $55 Million Center

The Phoenix Suns started their 2024-2025 season on a high note with designs on contending for a championship.

Supercharged with the mighty trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal, the Suns appeared to be one of the strongest contenders in either conference. As they won nine of their first 11 games, it seemed apparent the team would be formidable this season.

However, things have taken a downward turn since. The Suns are 11th in the Western Conference, with playoff possibilities dwindling. Now, Kevin Durant, apparently the strongest piece in the Suns’ roster, might be on his way out—unless the team can course-correct and pull itself back into the playoff race.

Is Durant heading to another franchise? Well, a big move may be coming, according to an NBA insider.

San Antonio Spurs Eyeing Kevin Durant?

According to a Fox News report shared by SpursReporter on X, the Spurs could make a blockbuster move to land Durant. The proposed deal suggests San Antonio would send Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Blake Wesley, two unprotected first-round picks, and two second-round picks to Phoenix in exchange for the 14-time All-Star.

It’s a move that could be a win-win for both franchises. The Suns, in return, would get two proven young starters in Vassell and Johnson, along with Wesley, a one-time first-round pick who still has room to grow. On top of that, multiple future draft picks would give Phoenix much-needed flexibility to rebuild its roster.

For the Spurs, adding Durant to their lineup would significantly strengthen their roster. He would form a new power trio alongside Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, giving the Spurs a stellar combination of experience and rising talent.

Additionally, the Spurs would still have young players like Jeremy Sochan and Julian Champagnie, ensuring they maintain depth. On paper, it seems like a great deal. However, with the trade deadline already passed, the Spurs would likely look to the buyout market to bring in veteran players.

ESPN’s Shams Charania Also Thinks Durant’s Days in Phoenix Are Numbered

Rumors are intensifying that the two-time NBA Finals MVP may soon part ways with the Suns. ESPN analyst Shams Charania shared similar views on an episode of NBA Countdown, stating:

“The stakes are high. Unless there’s a significant run into the playoffs for the Phoenix Suns, league sources believe that there will be real changes coming. From a roster standpoint, that likely starts with Kevin Durant.”

Durant is under contract through the 2025-26 season and is eligible for an extension. He can sign a two-year deal worth approximately $120 million, keeping him under contract through 2027-28. However, the possibility of that happening seems slim. At the moment, sentiments are strong that fans may soon see the NBA legend in a new team’s jersey.
