The Cleveland Browns won their first game of the 2025 season last week, but the victory hasn’t been enough to earn starting quarterback Joe Flacco a reprieve from criticism. Two-time Super Bowl champion LeSean McCoy is perplexed that the 40-year-old is still beginning and questioned if he has “something on the Browns” to keep his job.
Why Does LeSean McCoy Think Joe Flacco Has Dirt on Kevin Stefanski?
McCoy is unimpressed with what Flacco has done so far this season and insinuated that there may be behind-the-scenes reasons keeping Flacco in the starting spot. McCoy exclaimed, “Joe Flacco, I’m trying to figure out how the hell is he still playing? He must have something on the head coach. He must know some dirt. Because I watched that game. He had 142 yards.”

Although the Browns beat the previously unbeaten Green Bay Packers 13-10, McCoy credited the defense and special teams unit and called Flacco’s performance “bad quarterback play.”
“I watched the whole game. The defense saved him. And so did special teams. And the Packers saved him. Because the Packers did bad for them to do good. All I’m saying is, you see bad quarterback play every Sunday when you see Joe Flacco take the field.”
McCoy discussed the Browns’ quarterback play on Speakeasy with former NFL player Emmanuel Acho. The topic was brought to the forefront after third-string and rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders said in an interview, “If you see the quarterback play in the league right now, I know I’m capable of doing better than that.”
Because he analyzes Flacco, McCoy has no issues with Sanders’ comments. However, Acho disagreed. He felt that Sanders’ remarks could be misinterpreted as a shot at Flacco.
Acho raised concerns about how it will affect his Browns teammates: “You don’t want to cause any other drama in the locker room, and you don’t want to make it seem like you’re trying to usurp the starting quarterback.”
Through three games of the 2025 season, Flacco has thrown for 631 yards, 18th best in the league. However, getting into the end zone has been a struggle with only two passing touchdowns. His QBR of 37.8 sits near the bottom for starting quarterbacks at 28th.
Flacco’s pedestrian stats could open the door for a quarterback change, especially after the Browns took two quarterbacks, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, in the recent NFL Draft.
