The Chicago Cubs have been among the best teams in the National League through the first 48 games of the season. They had a big offseason with the addition of Kyle Tucker, one of the best players in the National League. But he is not the only one having an incredible year. The same can be said for Pete Crow-Armstrong, who is also playing like one of the best players in baseball.
PCA was once a top prospect but struggled during his first stint in the big leagues. This season, he has taken his game to a new level, hitting .282 with 12 home runs and 38 RBIs. Also, he has added 14 stolen bases. His play this season has led the Cubs to think of a potential contract extension for their superstar centerfielder.
Cubs Made an Effort to Sign PCA
According to 670 The Score, Cubs GM Jed Hoyer said the team made an effort to sign Crow-Armstrong to a long-term extension. He said, “I’m sure at some point, we will revisit. Right now, we’re letting him focus on the season.”

Not only is PCA a great hitter, but he is also one of the best defensive centerfielders in baseball. His elite speed allows him to get to fly balls that no one can, along with an arm that can throw runners out at any base.
We have seen young players across the league signing extensions before becoming household names in the majors. This benefits both the team and player, as the team usually gets a discount and the player is paid early in their career. However, the price tag is increasing for PCA after his excellent start to this season.
Cubs Looking Like One of the League’s Best
The Cubs have been playing at a high level to begin the 2025 season. They are in first place in the NL Central with a record of 30-20. Outside of PCA, the Cubs have gotten contributions all over their roster. The trade for Kyle Tucker this offseason has paid significant dividends. He has been their best hitter and is on the shortlist of NL MVP candidates.
While they have a potent lineup, their Achilles heel is their bullpen. That spot will probably have to be upgraded if the Cubs are serious about contending for the World Series. They picked up closer Ryan Pressley before the season, who has been a disaster and has since lost that role. Not to mention, three of their most-used relief pitchers have an ERA of 5.00 or higher. If the Cubs can address their bullpen issues, they can be one of the final few teams standing come October.
