Jahmyr Gibbs Gets Honest About Aidan Hutchinson’s Contract Extension

The Detroit Lions locked in long-term security on their defensive line by reaching a four-year contract extension with Aidan Hutchinson.

Hutchinson has established himself as one of the NFL’s premier pass rushers and recently emphasized that his focus is on winning championships and setting an example for younger fans rather than chasing financial rewards.

Teammate Jahmyr Gibbs offered his perspective on the extension prior to their Week 9 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

“[Aidan Hutchinson’s] return to form is a big reason Detroit is 5-2, but he is more than an elite pass rusher. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs, told me, ‘Hutch is a guy everybody in this locker room looks up to. He deserves it,’ Gibbs said. ‘Every penny,’” Tom Pelissero reported.

The extension is for $180 million over four years.

Hutchinson will receive a $15 million signing bonus along with a $28.4 million option bonus.

He is set to earn $45.9 million across this season and next season, $29.55 million in 2027 and 2028, $49.5 million in 2029, and $42 million in 2030.

Detroit has committed significant resources to maintaining its core over the past two seasons.

The Lions have extended Hutchinson, Jared Goff, Penei Sewell, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Kerby Joseph, Alim McNeill, Taylor Decker, David Montgomery and Jameson Williams.

Gibbs remains under contract through next season with a fifth-year option available in 2027, and if he doesn’t get an extension of his own, there is the potential use of the franchise tag.
