After going 7-10 and missing the playoffs this season, the Dallas Cowboys’ prospects aren’t looking much better for the 2025 NFL campaign.
Instead of hiring a high-profile head coach following the departure of Mike McCarthy, they promoted Brian Schottenheimer, who had been their offensive coordinator, and he is seen as an uninspiring choice.
Now, another well-traveled NFL assistant coach is reportedly going to join the Cowboys.
“The Cowboys are expected to hire former Buffalo and Cleveland OC Ken Dorsey as a pass-game specialist on Brian Schottenheimer’s staff, per source. He will have an on-field role, working with Schottenheimer and OC Klayton Adams,” Todd Archer of ESPN wrote on X.

Dorsey was the Browns’ offensive coordinator this season and held that role for the Bills during the prior two seasons.
When he was Buffalo’s offensive coordinator, the Bills, led by QB Josh Allen, ranked near the top of the NFL in both points and total yards, but they weren’t able to reach the Super Bowl.
In Dallas, Dorsey will be working with Dak Prescott, who is a very capable but flawed quarterback with a documented history of playing poorly in the playoffs, as well as CeeDee Lamb, who is arguably one of the game’s best wide receivers.
However, the Dallas running game was very weak this season, and they lack a true No. 2 receiver to pair with Lamb.
Without any semblance of a running game, Dorsey will be hard-pressed to unlock the Cowboys’ potential in the air, especially after they tied for 23rd in net yards gained per pass attempt in 2024.
