In recent years, the Philadelphia Eagles have built the most complete roster in the NFL, stacking stars at every key position. That foundation led them to victory in Super Bowl LIX, where they defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, the team that had denied them the title two years earlier.
However, a narrative has started circulating suggesting that Jalen Hurts is simply a product of a stacked system, benefiting from elite playmakers and the guidance of head coach Nick Sirianni. When asked about the debate, Sirianni offered an honest take on what matters more: individual talent or the collective.
Nick Sirianni Speaks About Jalen Hurts’ Role With the Eagles
The debate over whether quarterbacks are products of a system or deserve individual credit for their performance is nothing new. Since Tom Brady began his NFL journey with the New England Patriots, people have looked for ways to downplay the accomplishments of great quarterbacks by pointing to their supporting casts.
And the latest target of that argument is none other than the reigning Super Bowl MVP. Hurts had a solid season, though far from his peak in 2022, when he led the Eagles to the Super Bowl with his best year. Still, Sirianni doesn’t believe criticism over having a strong supporting cast holds up.
“There’s a lot of hours that TV shows and radio stations have to fill to be able to fill that debate. I understand that, but we’re talking about the ultimate team game there is, and he does whatever he needs to do to win each and every game… It’s the most ultimate team game there is. And what I admire about him is his selflessness of doing anything we need to do to win.”

Sirianni defended his quarterback in an interview with Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia, saying that from his perspective, individual performance must complement the collective effort. If the final goal is achieved, there’s no reason to complain, and Hurts has found success in the NFL largely because of that mindset.
Every quarterback needs a strong supporting cast to maximize the team’s potential, and there’s no point in having stats like Joe Burrow did in 2024 if the team still misses the playoffs because of a weak defense. It’s a complex game, and picking apart a quarterback’s type of leadership often misses the bigger picture.
The Eagles enter the season looking to repeat their 2024 success and claim their third Super Bowl title. Despite some offseason departures, the roster’s core remains intact, with key players still in place and positioning Philadelphia as one of the NFC’s top contenders.
